　オノ・ヨーコとジョン・レノンが歌う単なるクリスマスソングを越えた名曲。最初に囁かれるそれぞれの前妻（夫）との間の子供たち（京子とジュリアン）の名前。力強くかき鳴らすギター。重なってくる子供たちのコーラス。そしてクリスマスソングというにはあまりにも「重い」言葉たち。「ハッピー」な世の中が世界中のどこにでもあるわけではないことを考えさせられます。

　ジョン・レノンの命日も近いことだし、早速この歌をスタートしました。３年生は、ぜひこの歌を知って欲しい、と思っていつもやっています。

　ほとんど「反戦歌」としての意味合いを決定づけるプロモーションビデオをは、絶対見た方がいいです。繰り返される戦争のシーンと、その中でも最高の笑顔を見せる子供たちの映像。あの曲の美しいメロディと、優しい歌詞と、痛々しい映像がごちゃまぜになって、不思議な感覚になります。

　そして最後に黒画面に残る言葉。

　それまでこの歌の明るさを楽しんでいた子供たちの中に、また違うものが宿った感じがしました。彼らの目にそれが少しでも伺えたので、とりあえずはよかったかな。
