Eternal Flame

　８０年代を代表するガールズロックバンド「バングルス」の大ヒット曲。「マニック・マンデー」も好きなのですが、授業で歌うならこちらがオススメです。邦題は「胸いっぱいの愛」です。スローなテンポで歌いやすく、メロディも声も印象的な曲で、生徒たちもとても気に入っています。特に"Do you feel the same?"のファルセット部分が特徴的で、みんな真似をしながら歌っています。

　たいてい「もともと知っていた曲」の方がウケがいいのですが、この曲に関しては何回も聞いて歌っているうちに気に入ってしまうようです。やはりメロディの美しさがすべてですね。１年生のうちは「ダンシング・クイーン」のような元気でノリの良い曲が断然人気でしたが、２年生になると、こういうきれいなバラード曲もすんなりと受け入れてもらえるようになるんだなぁ、と思いました。

　純粋なラブソングのため、歌詞はちょっとリアル。"Do you feel my heart beating?"なんて中学生にはちょっと刺激的かなぁ？（今回はあえて訳詞をあげてないんですけどね）　でもそういう「ちょっとオトナの世界」が垣間見れるのも「英語の歌」の面白いところだから、まぁいいかなぁと思ってみたり。

　ちなみに同じタイトルでＴＯＫＩＯの長瀬智也氏が「日本語で」この歌を歌っています。生徒がそのＣＤを持っていたので、聞き比べたりして楽しんでいます。
